Prep highlights: Lefever pitches Woodland to win

Early home run lifts Beavers, 2-0

Makayla Lefever threw a two-hit shutout and struck out eight as Woodland defeated Mountain View 2-0 in softball.

Emma Pilkington’s two-run homer in the first inning provided all the runs the Class 1A Beavers would need in the victory over the Class 3A Thunder. Lefever added two hits for Woodland.

Colleen Driscoll came on in relief in the first inning for Mountain View and threw seven shutout innings, striking out seven.

Stars of the day

Softball: Harli Hubbard recorded 14 of the 15 outs by strikeout and also hit a home run for Camas in a 13-1 five-inning win over visiting Estacada, Ore.

Boys soccer: Connor Gilroy had two goals and two assists for King’s Way Christian in a 5-0 Trico League win at Castle Rock. King’s Way goalkeeper Jonathon Carothers stopped a penalty kick among his eight saves.

Baseball: Seaver Whalen homered, and three pitchers combined on a two-hitter as Union beat Prairie 8-0 and improved to 3-0 on the season.

Baseball: Ian Humphrey of Battle Ground went 4 for 5 with two triples and drove in four runs in a win over Hockinson

Softball: Shyanne Chandler of Ridgefield went 3 for 4 with a home run and drove in four runs in a win over Fort Vancouver.

Boys soccer: Erik Powell scored five goals in Seton Catholic’s 5-0 win over Toledo/Winlock. Powell has nine goals through two games for Seton (2-0).

Baseball: JT Kaul picked up a complete-game victory while striking out 11 as Mountain View defeated Skyview, 2-1. Andrew Krafve went 3 for 3 with a run and drove in a run for the Thunder.

Boys soccer: Anthony Dizon scored both Woodland goals in a 2-0 win over Stevenson.

Girls track and field: Fort Vancouver’s Mar’Shay Moore won the 100, 200, 400, and long jump, but the Trappers lost a dual meet to Washougal, 105-41.

Girls track and field: Heritage’s Britni Atwell won the high jump and triple jump in the Icebreaker meet at Gresham.
