Letter: Reduce federal budget, deficit

The Columbian
Published: March 14, 2013, 5:00pm

President Obama is raising alarm of the impact that a forced reduction of $85 million, due to sequestration, has on the current federal budget. As outlined in the currently submitted federal budget, the situation is:

Total revenue: $2.902 trillion.

Total expenditures: $3.803 trillion.

Deficit: $901 billion.

The issue is not a reduction in the budget by $85 billion but the deficit of $901 billion. Reducing the federal budget and deficit should be the primary fiscal concern of the executive and legislative branches of our government.
