PROVO, Utah (AP) — Tyler Haws scored 37 points and Brandon Davies added 22 points to lead Brigham Young to a 90-79 over Washington in the first round of the NIT Tuesday night.

Matt Carlino also added 20 points, 18 in the second half, for BYU (22-11).

The Huskies led 35-33 at the half, but the Cougars used a 9-0 run midway through the second half to break away from a 45-45 tie. Back-to-back layups by Abdul Gaddy cut the lead to 66-63, but two deep 3s by Carlino put BYU in control for good.

Haws went 15 of 24 from the floor and made all six free throw attempts. Carlino hit four 3s and also was a perfect 6 of 6 from the line. The Cougars made 21 of 23 free throws.
