Sabres showing signs of improvement under Rolston

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Ron Rolston is still busy trying to transform the Buffalo Sabres into winners rather than celebrate the one-month anniversary since taking over as the team’s interim coach.

Time’s flown so quickly that he couldn’t tell Wednesday if it had been one month or two since the Sabres fired Lindy Ruff and promoted Rolston from their AHL Rochester affiliate.

One thing Rolston’s sure of is this: If he intends to land the job on a more permanent capacity after this season, there’s still plenty of work to be done.

Saddled with an 11-15-4 overall mark, Buffalo is 7-5-3 under Rolston. That’s an improvement after getting off to a 4-10-1 start under Ruff. And yet, the Sabres are still showing numerous signs of inconsistency with sloppy play and a difficulty of holding third-period leads.
