BOSTON (AP) — Danny O’Regan scored twice in the third period as Boston University rattled off five straight goals in a 6-3 win over rival Boston College Friday, clinching a berth in the Hockey East title game and extending coach Jack Parker’s 40-year tenure at least one more game.

The Terriers (23-10-4) will face UMass Lowell for the conference title Saturday. A victory would secure a spot in the NCAA tournament, which BU has won three times under Parker. The coach is retiring at the end of the season, which appeared to be eminent when the Eagles (22-11-4) took a 2-0 lead on Quinn Smith’s goal with 11:14 left in the second.

Evan Rodrigues started the comeback on a goal with 7:43 left in the second, then Matt Lane scored on a breakaway just 2:04 later to tie it. Garrett Noonan added a goal with 2:01 left in the period, then O’Regan scored a pair of power play goals in the third to all but clinch it.

Steven Whitney pulled BC within 5-3 with 6:17 left to play, but Rodrigues sealed it with an empty-net goal.
