Chebet wins women’s title at cross country worlds

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland (AP) — Kenya’s Emily Chebet regained her IAAF cross country world championship title by winning the women’s race Sunday.

Chebet finished in 24 minutes, 24 seconds on the 4.8-mile course in freezing winter temperatures. She also won the race in 2010. Two Ethiopians filled out the podium with Hiwot Ayalew three seconds back in second and Belaynesh Oljira third in 24:33.

Earlier, Kenya’s Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon defended her junior women’s title, finishing in 17:51 for the 3.6-mile race.
