Two 149th Street houses will burn for training

Clark County Fire District 6 assisted by Clark County Fire & Rescue will conduct two live fire training burns in North Salmon Creek between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, and Tuesday, April 9.

The homes, 903 and 911 N.E. 149th St., are scheduled for demolition through Clark County Public Works as part of the 10th Avenue improvement project that extends the road to Northeast 164th Street.

Several school buses may be rerouted on drill days, which may delay buses from Skyview High School, Chinook Middle School and Alki Elementary School, according to District 6.

Precautions will be taken to ensure citizen and property safety during these drills.

The Washington Administration Code requires fire departments to do a live training burn once every three years.

"There is simply no way to replicate … a house fire. Controlled live burns are the most ideal way to train firefighters," said training Capt. Shawn Newberry.
