Letter: Voters should support education

The Columbian
Published: March 23, 2013, 5:00pm

We have a lovely granddaughter in the second grade who has been receiving an excellent education at a Battle Ground elementary school. We have been so impressed at the amazing opportunities available for her, led by an outstanding staff.

We are both retired educators who taught in a state that did not financially support its schools, and we saw not only a decline in the quality of education but a rise in crime. (One of us is a native Washingtonian.)

We are so fortunate to have a quality school district such as Battle Ground, which is turning out young people who contribute to our society. Quality does not come for free. Many people who normally vote did not vote for the last levy. Please do not put your ballot aside. Remember how important it is to all of us to have quality schools. Please vote “yes” on April 23 for the Battle Ground levy.
