Fisher’s Landing — A Vancouver teen was invited to New York City after two of her photographs impressed judges in the 2013 National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. Lillie Meyer, a junior at St. Mary’s Academy in Portland, will be honored for her artistic abilities along with other medal winners during a May 31 ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York. Meyer’s gold-winning digital photograph is called “Learning to Swim,” a black-and-white image of a boy sitting alone while covering his face at a Seattle fountain. She also won silver for a photo shot on film. She’s the first-ever gold medalist in the national arts competition from her school.
