Washougal — Young chef hopefuls from Washougal elementary schools competed against each other to whip up healthful meals in a live cooking competition March 20. Gause Elementary School fourth-grader Tristan Farrell was the grand prize winner of the third-annual Sodexo Future Chefs Elementary School Culinary Competition at Washougal High School. Farrell won the local competition after making his Massaged Kale Salad.

“The kids all came with great attitudes and great recipes,” said Mark Jasper, Sodexo’s nutrient services director at the Washougal School District, in a press release. “I think this process is enlightening to many of the kids. They see first hand all the work that the kitchen staff at school and their families at home do to put a meal together.”
