NEW YORK (AP) — Jordan Lyles will be recalled from the minors by the Houston Astros to start Thursday night against the AL champion Detroit Tigers.

Astros manager Bo Porter announced the decision Wednesday at Yankee Stadium. Houston had an open spot in the rotation after demoting Brad Peacock to the bullpen this week.

Drafted 38th overall in June 2008, the 22-year-old Lyles made 40 major league starts over the last two seasons and was 7-20 with a 5.20 ERA in 45 games overall. The right-hander was expected to be a member of the rotation this year but pitched so poorly in spring training that he was sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he is 2-2 with a 5.32 ERA in six outings.

Porter says a corresponding roster move will be made Thursday.
