CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Indians first baseman Nick Swisher is out of the lineup for the second straight game because of a sore left shoulder.

Swisher, who didn’t play Tuesday night against Philadelphia, started Cleveland’s first 23 games but is in a 4-for-28 slump that has dropped his batting average to .265. The switch-hitter has two homers and nine RBIs.

Cleveland manager Terry Francona expects Swisher to return Friday when the Indians open a three-game series with Minnesota. The Indians don’t play Thursday and Francona thinks three days off will be beneficial to Swisher, who has started 12 games at first base, six in right field and five as the designated hitter.
