SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants have activated left-handed reliever Jeremy Affeldt from the 15-day disabled list after he had been sidelined since April 17 with a strained muscle in his right side.

Also Friday, the team recalled infielder Francisco Peguero from Triple-A Fresno and optioned struggling catcher Hector Sanchez to the Grizzlies. Guillermo Quiroz is San Francisco’s No. 2 catcher behind NL MVP Buster Posey.

Giants assistant general manager Bobby Evans says infielder Tony Abreu is to begin a rehab assignment with Fresno on Friday as he works back from a sprained left knee. He also was slowed by a quadriceps injury this spring after being claimed off waivers from Kansas City in early February before spring training.

Right-hander Sandy Rosario was optioned to Triple-A after Wednesday’s game at Arizona.
