ATLANTA (AP) — The New York Mets optioned center fielder Collin Cowgill to Triple-A Las Vegas and called up Andrew Brown to take his place on Friday.

After going 2 for 5 with a grand slam in the season opener, Cowgill hit .155 with one homer and five RBIs over his next 46 at-bats.

Brown, who signed a minor league contract as a free agent last winter, hit .367 with two homers and 27 RBIs in 25 games for Las Vegas.

New York’s team batting average is just .202 over the last 12 games. Mets manager Terry Collins put Brown in the outfield and had him batting eighth.

Brown had a .224 average with five homers and 14 RBIs in a combined 134 at-bats with St. Louis in 2011 and Colorado last year.
