FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) — Celebrity Maserati took the lead around the final turn and drew off in the stretch Saturday to win the $139,600 Dexter Cup for 3-year-old trotters at Freehold Raceway, beating the favored Dontyouforgetit by 214 lengths.

Trained by Susanne Strandqvist and driven by Tom Jackson, Celebrity Maserati covered the mile in 1:58.3 to win the race that kicked off the road to harness racing’s most prestigious race, the $1.2 million Hambletonian Stakes. Celebrity Maserati and Dontyouforgetit were the only Dexter Cup entrants who are eligible to run in the big race Aug. 3 at the Meadowlands.

Celebrity Maserati followed Dontyouforgetit for much of the race before moving to the outside around the final turn and running off to his second win in two starts this year.
