Letter: Community support was uplifting

On Saturday, April 27 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center, Vancouver, as the host city, honored more than 200 high school seniors from throughout the region. Following graduation, these seniors will enter military service and immediately serve our country in a branch of service of their choice.

Several local companies made valuable contributions as sponsors.

Saluting seniors who enter military service after high school was started several years ago on the East Coast. As a Vancouver city councilor, I can report that the event was the largest of its kind on the West Coast where seniors from 25 high schools participated in our event. Nearly 600 folks attended to honor these young patriots and we all should be very proud not only of them but their parents for their support. Seniors received a certificate and special challenge coin. Keynote speaker was Col. Thomas Brittain, Chief of Staff, 7th Infantry Division at Fort Lewis. Numerous local dignitaries attended to offer their support and congratulations.
