NEW YORK (AP) — Belief System, a 15-1 long shot, and Lovely Syn, the odds-on favorite, won $100,000 divisions of the New York Stallion Stakes for 3-year-olds on Sunday at Belmont Park.
Belief System, trained by Rudy Rodriguez and ridden by Junior Alvarado, took the open division by a half-length over 6-5 favorite Chapman. He ran 612 furlongs in 1:17.35, paying $32.80 to win.
The filly division was formful as the undefeated Lovely Syn romped by a widening 912 lengths over Bit Bustin, returning $2.90 to win as the 2-5 choice. Mike Luzzi was aboard for trainer Dominic Schettino as Lovely Syn improved to 3-for-3. The time was 1:16.33.
