SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres have placed winless left-hander Clayton Richard on the 15-day disabled list with an intestinal virus and activated right-hander Tyson Ross.

Manager Bud Black says Richard originally got sick during a series at San Francisco two weekends ago and had a start pushed back a few days.

Richard fell to 0-4 with an 8.54 ERA after an 8-1 loss to Arizona on Saturday night, when he was knocked out in the fourth inning.

Black says Richard has lost 12 pounds, although he’s starting to gain it back. He’s scheduled to see a specialist on Monday.

Ross has been on the DL with a shoulder injury. He’ll pitch out of the bullpen. The Padres have two off days in the next two weeks that will allow them to go with a four-man rotation.
