FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas coach Bret Bielema says four players, including quarterback Brandon Mitchell, have been granted their release and intend to transfer.

Mitchell competed with sophomore Brandon Allen throughout the spring to replace the departed Tyler Wilson, but the senior was listed as the second-team quarterback following the completion of the Razorbacks Red-White game.

Bielema said following the game that he would consider playing Mitchell at wide receiver next season, but Mitchell was caught off guard by that prospect and said he was “just focused on strictly quarterback.”

Bielema says Mitchell is on track to earn his degree this summer and will use the NCAA graduate-transfer exception to play immediately elsewhere this season.

The other players leaving the school are defensive end Austin Flynn, safety Defonta Lowe and running back Keante Minor.
