BOTHELL — Detectives investigating the killing of a Bothell woman say they're examining whether a bicycle purchased by her estranged husband might have been used as a getaway vehicle.

The Herald newspaper of Everett reports that a Trek bike found abandoned nearly three weeks after the killing had been purchased by the man last fall.

Susann Smith was stabbed and beaten in her home Feb. 12. Police have not named her husband as a suspect, but court documents indicate they are scrutinizing his actions around the time of her death.

The newspaper reports that when questioned by police, the man denied owning a bicycle. But a review of his credit card records showed he bought one in November.

A search warrant affidavit says that same bike, identified by its serial number, was discovered March 1.

Detectives were seeking a search warrant to check it for trace evidence.
