INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Charlie Em defeated 1-2 favorite Scarlet Strike by a head to win the $100,500 Senorita Stakes in her U.S. debut at Betfair Hollywood Park on Saturday.

Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Charlie Em ran 1 mile on the turf in 1:35.18 and paid $21.40, $6.20 and $4.60 at 9-1 odds. Gomez won the Senorita for the third time.

Scarlet Strike returned $2.20 and $2.10 after running wide throughout the race under high weight of 121 pounds. Kyriaki was another 114 lengths back in third and paid $4.20 to show.

Charlie Em was making her first start for trainer Paddy Gallagher. The 3-year-old filly had been idle since finishing third in a $25,700 stakes in Hanover, Germany, last November.
