Ryan Shockey and Andrew Schenk combined for a no-hitter Saturday as the Clark College baseball team finished its season with a sweep of NWAACC West Region champion Pierce.
Clark won the first game 4-2, and finished the season with the 3-0 no-hitter in the second game at Kindsfather Field.
Shockey, a sophomore from Blaine, gave the ball to fellow sophomore Schenk, a Prairie High grad, for the final inning of their final game in a Clark uniform.
Skyview High grad Spencer Ramsey, David Mason, and Richie Apigo knocked in the Clark runs.
In the opener, Clark pounded out 11 hits, two each from David Mason and Matt Hopp.
Chance Nelson earned the victory, and Zach Prosser the save.
Clark finished the season with a .500 record in the West Region (12-12) and overall (21-21).
Coach Don Freeman described the season as one with dominant pitching and young hitters.
“We needed the hitting to match the pitching,” he said. “Pitching kept us in games. I’m very exciting about how we finished with two wins against a good hitting team like Pierce, but a little disappointed we couldn’t have performed better” during the season.
Freeman said his returning players are excited for next season and the community support for the program only continues to grow.
