Letter: Benton’s record is questionable

The Columbian

Wow. How soon can we vote for new county commissioners? Not soon enough as far as I’m concerned. Commissioners Tom Mielke and David Madore have crossed the line by directing a county administrator to hire Don Benton, a part-time citizen legislator. I think his voting record and attendance have also been part time. Benton apparently is supposed to assist with the county’s efforts to become more friendly to job creators. Is this the same Don Benton who is against the Columbia River Crossing, the huge construction project that will create hundreds of jobs? What am I missing here?

Mielke and Madore acted irresponsibly and do not represent the county’s best interests. As a taxpayer and voter, I’m appalled. Their actions are totally unacceptable to me, and should be to others as well, and I’m asking them to step down from their elected positions immediately.
