Letter: Unqualified hire deserves no pay

Apparently the two county commissioners that “selected” Don Benton for his new post also neglected to apply the “smell test” when making their decision, which calls into question their ability to do their jobs.

It seems whenever public officials are questioned about paying six-figure salaries to other public employees, the standard answer is that they “have to pay those huge amounts, to get the best (qualified) people.” So, in this case, it would seem that an admittedly unqualified person should not have to be paid at all.
