For the Mountain View boys soccer team, the hardest part about advancing to the state tournament was arriving at the stadium Saturday for the Thunder’s bi-district match against North Thurston.

But a late arrival at Highline Memorial Stadium in Burien didn’t keep the Thunder from beating the Rams from Lacey 4-0 to advance to the Class 3A state tournament.

“We basically rolled into the parking lot 30 minutes before our kickoff,” Mountain View coach Jeff Brooks said. “There was a truck fire north of Kelso, so we lost about an hour there. Then there was a wreck near the Tacoma Dome that slowed us up more. … Luckily, the 11 a.m. game went into penalty kicks.”

Once the Thunder took the field, they wasted no time. Rylan Berriman scored 43 seconds into the contest. He would another unassisted goal before halftime.

Then he scored a third goal 90 seconds into the second half to seal the victory. Tristen Payne added the final goal.

Mountain View will return to Burien on Tuesday or Wednesday to face Hazen in the first round of state.
