Volcanoes keep rolling with victory at Portland

Mike Ward scored 30 points and Chehales Tapscott had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds as the Vancouver Volcanoes defeated the Portland Chinooks 121-112 in International Basketball League action Saturday at Eastmoreland Courts.

The win was the sixth in a row for the Volcanoes (6-1), while Portland dropped to 0-3.

Ward was 11 of 21 from the field and also had six assists.

Paul Hafford added 25 points and seven assists for Vancouver, Jake Carlisle had 15 points, and Josh Tarver had 14 points.

Jared Cunningham led Portland with 27 points.

Vancouver next plays at Salem on Friday, and returns home to the O’Connell Center on Saturday to take on the LoneStar Strikers, a new IBL team based in Kingwood, Texas, which is a suburb of Houston.
