INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The company that owns IndyCar has hired veteran motorsports executive Derrick Walker as its head of competition.
Hulman & Co. chief executive Mark Miles announced the decision Monday. Walker will take over May 27, following the Indianapolis 500, and will be responsible for all technical and competition aspects of racing operations in the open-wheel series.
The 68-year-old Walker has been serving as general manager of Ed Carpenter Racing. During 19 years as a team owner, he fielded multi-car teams in 414 races in IndyCar, Firestone Indy Lights and Formula BMW, earning six victories and 16 poles. He has spent more than 40 years in the industry, including 13 with Roger Penske as part of Penske Cars Ltd.
