Letter: Benton was hired; get over it

It never ceases to amaze me that the liberal/progressive/eco-eccentric/Dems in this town get apoplectic when things don’t go their way.

Last week’s almost-all-nighter at the county commissioners meeting is a fine example. Yelling, shouting, interrupting, juvenile behavior was the soup-de-jour for the 49th-District-anti-Don-Benton tirade, which included a disgraceful performance from Royce Pollard.

All this was supported by a very inept chair for the night, Commissioner Steve Stuart.

Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke were certainly well within their right to appoint Sen. Benton to the position of director of environmental services.

Benton is a Republican, and who would dare replace any Democrat in government — never mind that Benton has a long record of excellent service.

Barack Obama has made some recent appointments in the White House that did not follow hiring protocol, i.e. Arif Alikhan, assistant secretary for Policy Development; Mohamed Elibiary, Homeland Security adviser; Rashad Hussain, special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference; Salam al-Marayati, Obama adviser-founder Muslim Public Affairs Council and its current executive director; Imam Mohamed Magid, Obama’s sharia czar, Islamic Society of North America; Eboo Patel, Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships, and people in Clark County are pitching a hissy fit about Benton? Get over it!
