49ers sign fullback Schepler to three-year deal

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have signed undrafted fullback Jason Schepler to a three-year contract.

The team announced the move Tuesday.

An accomplished run blocker, Schepler played in 49 games with 26 starts and was a team captain for Northern Illinois. He finished with 14 receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns, including three catches for 65 yards and one TD as a senior on the way to an Orange Bowl berth.

He helped the Huskies to a No. 12 NCAA ranking for yards rushing in 2012 at 238.2 yards per game. The 23-year-old Schepler used a medical redshirt year in 2011 after catching a career-high eight passes for 93 yards the previous season.
