Letter: Recall effort applauded

The Columbian

My thanks to former Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard for lending his name to support efforts to recall Clark County Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke. All one has to do is know what Esther Short Park looked like before and after Pollard served as Vancouver mayor — and to see all the wonderful bike lanes around Vancouver — to know what a great job he did as mayor.

I support both recall efforts and will be disappointed if they do not go forward and succeed. I commend all those who are willing to take a stand on an issue, whether or not I agree with them.

However, what I don’t like is to find some excuse like “it doesn’t matter,” “nothing will change,” ” let someone else do it,” etc., etc., to use as reasoning for not participating in these attempts.

Where democracy fails is because of excuses like that and not because of the folks who are willing to put some action where their feelings are. One can’t be so afraid of “losing” that they fail to participate in the game.

Consider this: If you don’t like what these commissioners are doing at this early stage of their majority rule, just wait a little longer.
