SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers have signed linebacker Thomas Keiser, who was waived by Carolina on Monday.

The signing Thursday comes two days after outside linebacker Melvin Ingram tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, putting his season in jeopardy.

The Chargers also are wooing free agent Dwight Freeney.

Keiser spent his first two seasons with the Panthers after joining them as an undrafted rookie from Stanford in 2011. He started his rookie season on the practice squad and was signed to the active roster for the final eight games in which he totaled four sacks, an interception and nine tackles. Last year, Keiser played in four games before being placed on injured reserve with a damaged left elbow.
