OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have activated outfielder Chris Young from the disabled list.

A’s manager Bob Melvin put Young into the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Royals. Young, who had been out with a strained left quad, batted seventh and was in right field.

An offseason acquisition from Arizona, Young has struggled in his first season with the A’s. He was batting just .172 with 15 RBIs in 23 games before getting hurt.

To clear room, Oakland first baseman Daric Barton was designated for assignment. Barton hit .143 with one home run and three RBIs in eight games with the A’s.
