Letter: Bill improves collection process

I want to thank all of our Clark County legislators for their support for Senate Bill 5705, which Gov. Jay Inslee signed. I want to give a special thanks to Rep. Jim Moeller, D-Vancouver, for his last-minute help in pushing the bill through the Legislature.

S.B. 5705 authorizes county treasurers to accept payments on delinquent taxes. The legislation also allows treasurers to be more proactive in helping taxpayers prior to foreclosure and distraint (seizing and selling property) of personal property. In addition, the bill allows a taxing district the authorization to issue a refund levy, which would make the taxing districts whole in what they levied and budgeted for in the previous year.

As Clark County treasurer, I appreciate this help in making tax collection management more fair and cost effective for the taxpayers of the state of Washington.
