The Clark County Warriors completed their domination of the Oregon Youth Rugby Club Championship Division on Saturday, beating North Clackamas 50-0 in the state championship game.
Nick Gadbaw and Justin Straup scored two five-point tries apiece. Jason Vailea, Ian Dea, Darrin Curle and Luc Levasseur also scored for Clark County. Darrin Curle made several conversion kicks, and Brendon Curle added one.
The Warriors’ roster included players from Camas, Mountain View, Evergreen, Union, and Columbia River high schools: John Ashford, Dale Bancke, Jared Borja, Hanini Buchanan, Brock Busch, Drew Clarkson, Brendon Curle, Darrin Curle, Ian Dea, Michael Digenova, Royce Ellis-Parilla, Nick Gadbaw, Ryan Gingerich, Gavin Grable, Grant Hardy, Thomas Hudson, Daelin Jensen, Jesse Kiesser, Luc Levasseur, Jacob Mitchell, Riley Moss, Jaren Rhea, Payton Rusu, Jesse Saulo, Justin Straup, Julian Svaricek, Dylan Tauscher, Nick Thompson, Jason Vailea, and Matt Walser.
The Club Championship division is for teams that draw players from more than one high school. Based in Camas, the Warriors are a second-year program.
Battle Ground 45, Prairie 39 — In the Varsity Premiership for teams that draw players from only one high school, Battle Ground scored late to edge rival Prairie 45-39 for third place in the state tournament.
For Battle Ground, tries were scored by Daniel Monen, Trevor Ingram, Micheal Esse, Shawn Smith, and Wyatt Webb. John Cormican, who made some key conversion kicks, was the man of the match for Battle Ground, according to coach Daniel Simental.
Simental also praised Prairie for the competition.
“For a first-year, side they are a class act, and (I give) credit to their players and coaches,” Simental said.
Prairie statistics were not reported.
Reynolds, Grant win titles — Reynolds of Troutdale edged Lincoln of Portland 27-20 to win the Oregon Youth Rugby Varsity Premiership state championship.
In the varsity girls title match, Grant scored late to beat Canby 21-17.
