PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have ended Adam Eaton’s rehabilitation stint in the minors after the young outfielder felt soreness in his injured elbow.

Eaton had been a designated hitter in the minors for the past few weeks but began playing the outfield last weekend. Manager Kirk Gibson, speaking before Arizona’s game at Colorado on Wednesday, said Eaton felt discomfort in the right elbow during an appearance with Triple-A Reno on Monday and was returning to Phoenix to be examined by team doctor Michael Lee.

Eaton has been on the disabled list all season after spraining his left elbow in spring training. Before that, he had been slated to play center field and be the team’s leadoff hitter.
