Tarbell route scheduled for work on June 1 as part of Trails Day

HOCKINSON — Volunteers plus members of the Chinook Trail Association will work from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 1 on Tarbell trail in the Yacolt Burn State Forest as part of National Trails Day.

Work is planned between road No L-1300 and Cold Creek Day Use Area to harden the trail and do drainage maintenance and brushing.

Participants will be at Cold Creek Day Use Area for a safety meeting and assignments.

Oregon state parks free on June 1 to encourage additional use

Oregon State Parks will offer free tent, recreational vehicle and horse camp sites and free day-use on June 1 as part of the 15th annual State Parks Day.

Reservations can be booked two days or more in advance by visiting www.oregonstateparks.org or calling Reservations Northwest at 1-800-452-5687 before 5 p.m. on May 30.

Yurts, cabins, teepees and group sites will be available at regular rates.

Reservations cost $8, even for sites that are free for the night.

Many parks will have special events on June 1.
