The state 4A tennis semifinals is familiar territory for Sammi Hampton and Jelena Vidovic.

Skyview’s Hampton, the defending girls singles champion, has another semifinal date with Inglemoor’s Sabrina Demerath today as they meet again for a spot in the 4A final in Richland.

Hampton defeated Demerath in straight sets last year en route to the title.

So far, Hampton has dropped just three games in her two state matches on Friday.

On the other side of the bracket is Union’s Vidovic, also a semifinalist last year but she wound up sixth after two losses.

Vidovic had a tough route to this year’s semifinal, needing three sets including a first-set tiebreaker to win her first-round match over Myint-Zu Kyaw of Edmonds-Woodway 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-4.

Awaiting Vidovic in the final is Angela Chen of Newport.

Skyview’s Sydney Wallace went 1-2 and was eliminated.

In the 4A girls doubles, Camas’ team of Esther Kwon and Jen Lewis reached the semifinals by also defeating familiar foes.

Kwon and Lewis topped Skyview’s Kristina Metz and Macy Ballew 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

In the 3A tournament at Kennewick, Mountain View’s doubles team of Trevor Jones and Colton Reed reached the semifinals, needing three sets in their quarterfinal to advance.

Jones and Reed got past Sam Blattner and Luke Taggert of Seattle Prep 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.

In 3A doubles, only Columbia River’s Alex Wilmington and Ashley Osler won their first round match, however they were eliminated with two three-set match defeats.

Prairie’s Akari Baba won her first match in 3A girls singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Jenny Sui of Shorecrest. Baba then lost in the quarterfinals to Catherine Allen of Holy Hames 6-0, 6-0. Baba was eliminated in the consolation round, 6-2, 6-4 by Cello Lockwood of Holy Names.

Dominik Gorecki of Columbia River lost his singles first match of the day 6-1, 6-0, but battled back to reach the fifth-place final today after wins of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1.

At the 2A tournament in Seattle, Hockinson’s doubles team of Tiara Atchley and Jaymie Towne reached the semifinals.

They needed three sets to win their first-round match 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5, and then won their quarterfinal 6-3, 6-0.
