NEW YORK (AP) — Tannery pulled a 10-1 upset in the $200,000 Sheepshead Bay Stakes, beating Anjaz by a length on Saturday at Belmont Park.

Luis Saez saved all the ground with the 4-year-old during the 1 3/8-mile race for fillies and mares contested over a very soft turf course. Tannery never left the fence, charging through a wide inside opening in the lane when the pacesetting Minakshi tired and drifted out.

The Irish-bred Tannery, trained by Alan Goldberg, got her fifth win in 15 starts. It was her first U.S. victory in five tries. The time was 2:20.17, and she paid $22.60, $9 and $6.70.

Anjaz, the trailer for most of the race, rallied into the place spot, returning $16.60 and $9.50. Minakshi held on for third, paying $7.60 to show.
