A local group is kicking off summer with an event promoting healthy, low- or no-cost activities for kids and families.

Vancouver Summer Adventure, created by a group of community organizations, is a free resource guide to low- or no-cost family activities in the community.

The Vancouver Summer Adventure kickoff event is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Marshall Park, 1015 E. McLoughlin Blvd.

Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt, Smokey the Bear and Sophie the Otter will attend the event. The free event also includes dancing, heart-healthy snacks, an award-winning children’s story and a service project supporting the park.

The goal of Vancouver Summer Adventure is to get families to eat smart, play hard, experience nature, learn and serve, according to an event news release.

As a partner, the Parks Foundation of Clark County is collecting donations for the project. For more information about sponsoring, contact the Parks Foundation at 360-487-8370.
