Letter: Panhandlers trashing our county

I am concerned about what is happening in regards to panhandlers in Clark County.

I especially find the 99th Street underpass a huge mess. The Department of Transportation is failing citizens; this underpass looks like a huge rats’ nest, garbage keeps piling up and nothing is being done. I have called several times about this situation with no response.

Panhandlers are out of control and are becoming very aggressive, especially when someone tries taking pictures of their trash or talks to them about why they are standing out in the streets. I feel these panhandlers need to be banned from the streets.

Clark County commissioners are not responding to resolve this problem, despite the fact that people have been asking for help about this situation. I have communicated with the Clark County Sheriff’s Department and they have told me nothing can be been done to stop panhandlers.

I am concerned about this attitude.

My 7-year-old niece was killed by a panhandler living in a park in Sacramento, Calif. Is this going to have to happen in our town before someone realizes how serious this situation really is in Clark County?
