NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees manager Joe Girardi was ejected in the fifth inning of New York’s game against Boston on Friday night for arguing a call against his team at second base.

Pitcher Jon Lester’s throw to second on Ichiro Suzuki’s comebacker was wide to the shortstop side of the base, and shortstop Stephen Drew had to stretch for it. Replays showed Drew kept his foot on the bag, the throw beat David Adams to the base and the forceout call by second base umpire Vic Carapazza was correct.

With the Yankees on a season-high, five-game losing streak, Girardi came out to argue and was ejected. He continued to argue and appeared to lightly bump crew chief Gary Cederstrom.

It was New York’s first ejection of the season. Girardi has been ejected 17 times as Yankees manager, 18 times overall with the Yankees, 19 times as a big league manager and 22 times total.
