PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Jeff Schmid shot a 6-under 66 on Friday to open a four-stroke lead after the second round of the PGA Assistant Championship.
Schmid, a 45-year-old PGA assistant professional at Perche Creek Golf Club in Columbia, Mo., had a 10-under 134 total on PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker Course.
First-round leader Trent Rommann of Wichita, Kan., was tied for second with Brett Carman of Claysville, Pa.; Adam Gary of Bowling Green, Ky.; and Chris Trout of Fort Myers, Fla.
The tournament winner will receive $9,000 and a spot in the PGA Professional National Championship in June in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
