ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Mizdirection defended her title in the $1 million Turf Sprint, extending Mike Smith’s record for most Breeders’ Cup wins by a jockey to 20.
She ran 612 furlongs on the downhill course at Santa Anita in 1:12.25 and paid $7.40, $4.40 and $3.40 as the 5-2 favorite Saturday. She improved to 7-0 on the track’s turf course.
Mizdirection is co-owned by sports talk host Jim Rome.
Reneesgotzip and Tightend Touchdown finished in a dead-heat for second, a half-length back. Reneesgotzip returned $3.60 and $4.80, while Tightend Touchdown paid $6.80 and $8.60.
It was Smith’s third win of the two-day world championships, having won two races Friday.
