The Citadel runs for 338 yards, tops Samford 28-26

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Darien Robinson rushed for 83 yards and a career-high three touchdowns as The Citadel erased a 17-0 deficit to beat Samford 28-26 on Saturday.

Robinson’s final score, a 29-yard run, gave The Citadel (3-6, 3-4 Southern Conference) a 28-20 lead with 12:27 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Andy Summerlin connected with JaUan Davis on an 8-yard touchdown pass with just 1:22 left to play, finishing a 14 play, 91-yard drive, setting up a chance for Samford (6-3, 4-1) to tie the game with a two-point conversion. Summerlin’s pass, intended for Emmanuel Obajimi, was well covered by Sadath Jean-Pierre and sailed wide right.

Kelsey Pope caught 10 balls for 133 yards in the loss.

Vinny Miller had a career-high 95 yards rushing to pace The Citadel, which piled up 338 yards on the ground and came in averaging 275.4 per contest.

The Citadel improved to 4-0 all-time against FCS top-15 opponents.
