Local schools recognized for student achievement

Six schools in the Educational Service District 112 region in Southwest Washington have been named 2013 School of Distinction Award winners. They are among the top 5 percent in the state recognized for improved student achievement. The award recognized 99 Washington schools for consistently being at or above the state median and sustaining increased performance in reading and math over a five-year period.

The local schools are York Elementary, Evergreen Public Schools; Grass Valley Elementary, Camas School District; South Ridge Elementary and Union Ridge Elementary, Ridgefield School District; Harney Elementary, Vancouver Public Schools and Kalama Junior/Senior High, Kalama School District.

Grass Valley and South Ridge elementary schools received the award for two consecutive years, and Kalama Junior/Senior High has been recognized for three consecutive years.
