Megan LaFond had 16 kills, 10 digs and two aces and Kaitlyn Goertzen added 39 assists as the Union volleyball team rallied from a slow start to beat Skyview in the Class 4A district semifinal on Tuesday.

Union won 17-25, 25-8, 25-20, 25-17.

Union will play at Camas at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the district title. Skyview heads to the bi-district tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Storm will open bi-district Friday against Kentwood.

“We were kind of asleep in that first set,” Union coach Tove Papenfuse said. “We woke up in the second one, and Skyview had some service problems.”

Madeline Sutherland added 11 kills and two blocks, while Meghan Turner added seven kills and 15 digs for the Titans.

Kelsey Brown had 14 assists, nine digs and eight aces for Skyview.

Girls soccer

Prairie 1, Kelso 0 — Alyssa Adams scored off a free kick with 12 minutes to play as Prairie clinched the No. 3 seed to the bi-district playoff with the win at Kiggins Bowl.

The Falcons will face North Thurston of Lacey at 5:30 p.m. at Stadium High School in Tacoma in a loser-out game. The Falcons need to win Thursday and Saturday to advance to state.

Black Hills 4, Hockinson 3 — Cameron Bielat score three second-half goals, but they weren’t not quite enough to rally the Hawks to victory in the 2A district semifinals.

Hockinson will face Tumwater on Thursday in a loser-out match. If the Hawks win that match, they would need to beat the Capital-Mark Morris winner on Saturday to advance to state.

White Salmon 4, Seton Catholic 2 — Brynna Freitag and Megan McDaid-O’Neill each scored goals off assists for Jorie Freitag as Seton Catholic saw its season come to an end in a 1A district playoff.
