OLYMPIA — The announcement of a special legislative session that starts this week means that Gov. Jay Inslee will miss the first stop of his previously scheduled trade mission to Japan and China.

Inslee on Tuesday called for the special session to start Thursday in hopes of swiftly approving a package of bills that are part of a broad bid to get Boeing to build the composite wings and fuselage of its new 777X in Washington state. Inslee was set to leave Saturday for Tokyo, something that spokesman David Postman says now will not happen.

Postman says that the rest of the delegation will leave as planned, and that Inslee hopes to meet up with them soon after, but a date has not yet been settled on due to the session. The original schedule had Inslee arriving in Beijing on Nov. 12.
