A tree planting Saturday will put hundreds of new trees in the ground in several southeast Vancouver neighborhoods.

Friends of Trees, the Oregon-based organization coordinating the event, expects trained volunteer crews and others to participate in the planting. But organizers are inviting anyone to come help with the effort.

The planting will cover parts of Bella Vista, Cascade Highlands, Cascade Southeast, Fisher’s Creek, Fisher’s Landing, Lewis and Clark Woods, Riveridge and Wildwood neighborhoods. The event is set for noon to 4 p.m.

Participants are asked to gather by noon at the Real Life Church, 2202 S.E. Bella Vista Road in Vancouver. Volunteers should bring sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

People can learn more about the event by calling 503-595-0213. Another planting will take place in January in Vancouver’s central neighborhoods.
