Letter: Rep. should have courtesy to resign

The Columbian
Published: November 6, 2013, 4:00pm

Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, was elected by her constituents to represent them in Congress to have their voices heard. Ever since the birth of her daughter this has not happened. I know that her daughter was born with an unfortunate medical situation for which she has my fullest sympathy, but as an effective congressional representative she has definitely fallen behind. For the past few months she has not voted on any issues requiring an opinion. She has not voiced her opinion strongly enough on the disastrous Obamacare, which is a current hot topic.

We need an effective representative in Washington, D.C. I can understand that her main concern presently is the welfare of her daughter. If that is the No. 1 issue, then she should have the courtesy to resign. She can always run again at a later time.
