Austin Peay powers past Oakland City 84-69

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Ed Dyson scored 17 points as Austin Peay’s front court led the team to an 84-69 win over Oakland City.

Austin Peay bullied Oakland City, outscoring the Mighty Oaks 40-22 in the paint, outrebounding them 46-27 and earning twice as many free throws. Governors’ center Chris Horton pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds in addition to 10 points. Forward Will Triggs also added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Oakland City, member of the National Christian College Association, connected on 7 of 13 first-half 3-pointers to cut the Governor lead to 40-38 at half. However, the Mighty Oaks went cold in the second half, hitting only 3 of 10 attempts from beyond the arc.

Austin Peay pulled away late, finishing on a 15-4 run.

Oakland City’s Kendall Whittmer led all scorers with 20 points in addition to five rebounds and four assists. Lawrence Kinney added 12 points and six assists.
